![]() ![]() Microids is being very secretive regarding this last area, for obvious reasons. ![]() From the town of Romansbourg, the game moves through to the Great North Passage, that will take place outdoors, to the Youkol Village, and finally to the great white whale that is Syberia. This is, of course, to let the players feel halfway intelligent most of the time and actually have a chance in hell of finishing the game. Basically, they're much more logical than you would ever find in a game like Riven. The puzzles that you'll have to figure out will be much the same as the first one and will also be woven into the story in a manner than makes sense. It's a very short demo that hints at the train leaving without Kate after finishing that simple puzzle. #WHERE DOSE SYBERIA II STORE SETTINGS TRIAL#The puzzle itself is certainly no brain twister with simple trial and error sufficing to solve the problem if you don't get it right out of pure luck the first time. Luckily Hans has the part ready and waiting. ![]() Here you'll find a local tavern with a set of mechanical horses, which need to be fixed to solve a puzzle. From there, things progress to the city of Romansbourg, where the short demo sent to us that was shown at E3 takes place. The game actually begins in the familiar Aralbad to get players re-grounded in the story. Four new areas have been designed to give players plenty of new exploration. But as you slowly move north, you'll get heavier and heavier snow, sometimes even falling into blizzards. Because there are so many outdoor environs in the game, it was also important to the development team to really dig into the possibilities and reality of the situation by adding animated snow and ice effects to push that belief that it's cold as hell out there, which is actually already pretty clear just by the settings and colors in the outdoor settings. As you can imagine from a journey that moves steadily north, you can expect the environments to become much colder and forbidding. Inside buildings you'll find lively and warm environments, all given different colors from area to area to differentiate between new places. Cities will be much livelier than they used to be with tricks like real-time lighting and shadows accentuating cities with working machinery doing its thing in the background with actual people wandering the streets and more tricks like volumetric fog for mood. Much more fantastic environments have been designed to help players really start to experience that kind of Alice down the rabbit hole feel that Kate Archer is experiencing as a character. Kate Walker and company will slowly be moving farther North towards their Syberia goal and farther away from the "real world" and its grounding influences. These four new areas, while certainly sitting in the middle of a whole lot of snow, are promised to be very different from one another in terms of architecture, design, and color. #WHERE DOSE SYBERIA II STORE SETTINGS PC#One thing that's certain is the development team in Montreal and Sokal himself are very dedicated to bringing and even more visually interesting world to PC gamers than the original Syberia did. This isn't to say that gamers will immerse themselves in combat or jumping puzzles, but more "exciting events" will happen to Kate than before with a more interactive environment and more characters to interact with. We apparently weren't the only ones that thought the adventure was a little slow at times either as the story for this continued adventure will supposedly have much more dynamic events to hype up the action a bit. And those of you that were complaining about the open end in the first game will be happy to know that this sequel will bring all of those plot elements together for one final conclusion to the story and the Syberia franchise, although Kate Walker could always be back in different adventures. Now that she doesn't have to follow Hans around from place to place, she can actually join him in his journey to find Syberia and unravel the mystery. Now she just seems to be in it for the fun. Having just found the toymaker, Kate Archer completed her quest that had originally brought her across the pond. Instead of following a completely new plotline and bringing in new characters, Syberia II will start up exactly where the original left off. ![]() So creator Benoit Sokal was ready to give players what they wanted and what they needed. Sure, gamers managed to help Kate Walker find the toymaker Hans by the end, but there were enough loose ends to tangle up several more unsuspecting New York lawyers. One of the complaints filed frequently by those that played the first Syberia was the lack of a concrete ending. ![]()
